ABSTRACT
Introduction: In situations of normal and pathological development, the adaptive modification of human behavior is possible due to brain plasticity.
Objective: Carry out a literature review on the most common forms of psychological intervention in cancer patients, considering neuropsychological and psycho-oncological interventions.
Method: Articles, books, manuals and specialized documents of scientific production published between 2010 and 2021 were reviewed in the following databases: Ebscohost, Scopus, Springer Protocols, Springer Journals, BioOne, Cambridge Journals Collection, Elsevier Science Direct, Wiley Online Library, Nature, Emerald, Google Bocks, Google Scholar, PubMed, Dialnet, SciELO, DOAJ, Latindex and REDIB, using descriptors in English, Portuguese or Spanish.
Development: It was possible to make a classification by family of the categories “non-pharmacological intervention” and “oncological disease”, using the qualitative data analysis program ATLAS.ti, version 9. The relational networks obtained allowed to carry out this literature review.
Conclusion: It has been verified that both neuropsychological and psycho-oncological intervention are effective in improving patients with oncological disease, from the brain to subjective well-being of the person. These interventions help to manage cognitive, behavioral symptoms and emotional disorders, as a result of the disease process. Sometimes, the therapist adopts the role of interlocutor which is useful in patient-family-health personnel communication.
