It was 1992 in São Paulo, Brazil. A group of doctors from different specialties, united by a long-standing friendship, founded an Academic Society for prioritizing the patient as a person, who, amidst the technological whirlwind, was at risk of being relegated to the background. Thus, was born SOBRAMFA, and with it the movement for medical practice centered on the patient, not the disease.Although at the time we were not aware of the international academic movements in Family Medicine, the name seemed suggestive to us, perhaps because it evoked the doctor of times gone by, who, lacking the current technological resources, assumed the commitment to take careful care of his patients. The following years showed that the founders, doctors and professors, although in tune with this humane way of practicing medicine, did not have enough time to dedicate themselves to educating students - future doctors - since their time was absorbed by their respective professional activities. They were essential elements in the Council of the first years of SOBRAMFA, but it was realized that it was necessary to reach medical students, from whom the future leaders of this movement could emerge. Thus, we began to look for spaces in medical schools to spread the philosophy of SOBRAMFA among students. Five years after its foundation, SOBRAMFA began the Academic Congresses, led by medical students, bringing together people from all over Brazil, an event that has been repeated annually to this day.
