ABSTRACT

Facial autologous fat injections have become one of the most important rejuvenating surgeries of our time. This has been accompanied by a rise in atypical mycobacteria infections. These soft tissue infections result from using non sterilized water or surgical equipment and can have devastating consequences if not treated promptly. Atypical mycobacterial infections are very difficult to diagnose and treat adequately. We present the case of a patient who underwent eyelid rejuvenation surgery with fat transfer and developed such an infection. A comprehensive diagnostic and treatment algorithm is proposed.
