ABSTRACT
Introduction: abdominal hysterectomy is a surgical intervention that is frequently performed in women and presents a high incidence of postoperative pain. At present, the application of a multimodal strategy, in which regional and systemic methods are combined, is recommended for its prevention. The use of regional analgesic techniques offers its advantages over parenteral administration of opioids. Objective: to expose the current state of the regional methods for postoperative analgesia in such surgery.
Materials and methods: a search on the topic was conducted in printed and electronic documents in Cochrane Library, LILACS, PubMed/Medline and SciELO databases, as well as in Google Scholar. The experience of the authors was also shown.
Results: the most used methods of regional anesthesia are neuroaxial analgesia, nervous blockage of the abdominal transverse plane, blockage of the ilioinguinal and iliohypogastric nerves, and infiltration of the surgical wound with local anesthetics.
Conclusions: the exposed techniques of regional analgesia are effective for the prevention of the acute postoperative pain in the abdominal hysterectomy, as components of multimodal analgesia.
