ABSTRACT

Loxoscelism, the medical condition resulting from the bite of spiders of the genus Loxosceles spp, represents a diagnostic challenge due to the lack of specific tests in our country and the variability in clinical presentation, ranging from localized pain and necrosis to systemic complications. This article proposes 3 tools to establish the diagnosis: The Rader criteria, the NOT RECLUSE mnemonic and the clinical progression. Regarding treatment, although there is still no international consensus, it is important not to neglect general wound care, anti-tetanus prophylaxis and even more important the early use of antivenom (faboterapeutic).
