ABSTRACT
Degenerative pathologies of the lumbar spine, such as disc herniation, spondylosis and spinal stenosis, are common causes of chronic pain and disability in adults, with a significant impact on the quality of life of patients and on health systems, due to the need for complex surgical interventions. At the General Hospital of Saltillo of the Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) Coahuila, an increase in the number of lumbar spine surgeries has been observed, highlighting the importance of procedures such as discectomy, laminectomy and spinal fusion and posterior instrumentation for pain relief and functional improvement. The present study focused on evaluating the impact of post-surgical rehabilitation in patients with degenerative pathology of the lumbar spine who underwent surgery at that hospital. Eighty-three patients were selected, based on the number of surgical procedures performed and the scheduling of surgical days reported in the SIMEF system. All patients had a confirmed diagnosis and underwent discectomy, laminectomy or spinal fusion. The sample was determined using the finite population formula, ensuring that the results are representative and meaningful in the context of the health center. This study seeks not only to evaluate the effectiveness of the rehabilitation protocols implemented, but also to generate data that can improve clinical practices in the post-surgical management of these patients. The results of this study show that physical rehabilitation has a positive impact on pain reduction, improved functionality, and increased quality of life for patients after lumbar spine surgery.REFERENCES
