ABSTRACT

Introduction: pityriasis capitis is a condition commonly present in the majority of the population since adolescence, which generates high epidemic rates. Objective: to clinically and epidemiologically characterize pityriasis capitis and its relationship with demographic factors in patients who attended the Trichology specialized care center of the "Manuel Lezaeta Acharán" Higher Technological University Institute, in the period July-October 2022. Methods: An observational, descriptive-correlational, cross-sectional design was applied in 120 patients diagnosed with pityriasis capitis between the ages of 16 and 50 years. The entire population was occupied. Pearson's correlation coefficient was applied to verify the associations between the variables. Results: the elaboration of a quantitative evaluation technique for pityriasis capitis called PAPTCO was developed. 53% of the patients corresponded to the female gender and a predominance of the mild degree was found in both sexes. A slight superiority of steatoid pityrasis capitis was found (69). It was obtained that 75.2 % of the individuals belong to the sierra zone. A significant statistical association was suggested between the place of residence and the type of pityriasis capitis (p= 0.049), with a predominance of steatoid dandruff in the coastal region. Conclusions: the clinical diagnosis marked a predominance of steatoid pityriasis over simple pityriasis, reflecting a higher frequency in women. The clinical-epidemiological study found a statistically significant association between the place of residence and the type of pityriasis capitis.
