ABSTRACT
Introduction: ambulatory surgery is an alternative to traditional hospitalization and allows the patient to return home the same day of admission after having undergone an anesthetic-surgical intervention. Objective: to characterize the patients who underwent major outpatient surgery at the "Vladimir Ilich Lenin" General University Hospital in the period July-December 2021. Method: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional investigation was carried out. The universe was made up of 330 patients electively undergoing major ambulatory surgery during the stage analyzed; fully studied. Descriptive statistics were used. Results: oncological surgery predominated in 60%; exceresis and biopsy of any anatomical site were the most performed procedures (38.78%). Intravenous general anesthesia was the predominant method, tremors and postoperative pain occurred with minimal frequency (both 4.54%); 100% of the patients studied were discharged and no case of readmission was recorded in the 24 hours after discharge. Conclusions: The complications found occurred with low frequency and did not compromise the lives of the patients, which allowed 100% of them to be discharged with anesthesia and surgery, and no readmissions were recorded in the 24 hours after discharge. A good level of satisfaction was found in patients with the surgical and anesthetic experience received, which represents a measure of the institution's quality of care.REFERENCES
