ABSTRACT
Introduction: medical simulation as a learning tool has proven to be essential in the training of health professionals. In the last decade, the growth of advanced technologies has increased the realism and effectiveness of these practices. This article analyzes the impact of medical simulation with standardized patients on medical students when dealing with psychiatric scenarios.
Objectives: to compare learning outcomes between students with and without medical simulation in their curriculum. To identify the semester with the best learning outcomes.
Material and methods: comparative observational study conducted in 5th and 12th semester medical students of the Universidad Anáhuac Querétaro, evaluated by means of a standardized clinical scenario. Fifty-one students who met the selection criteria participated.
Results: the 5th semester students (with simulation) obtained an average of 7.8, while the 12th semester students (without simulation) achieved 5.6, showing a significant difference in communication and diagnostic skills.
Conclusion: medical simulation has a positive impact on learning, especially in communication skills and emotional management when facing complex clinical cases.
