Essential needs of stomatologists in times of the COVID-19 pandemic

ABSTRACT
Introduction: To inquire about the essential needs of stomatologists in times of COVID-19 is a topic of interest.Objective: To characterize the essential needs that can be perceived by the stomatologists of Mella regarding working conditions during this pandemic period.
Methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in Mella municipality, Santiago de Cuba province, from May to November 2020. The random sample consisted of 10 stomatologists and the analyzed variable was their essential needs. An interview was conducted through a qualitative technique of focus group.
Results: Normative needs (reinforcement and improvement of biosafety measures), comparative (differences in conditions among premises), felt (inadequate ventilation) and expressed ones (lack of attention by administrative staff) were stated.
Conclusions: The needs of stomatologists were centered on increasing academic preparation concerning COVID-19, increasing resources that guarantee a better personal protection, as well as encouraging the administrative staff to provide more and better care in terms of supplies and logistics for the attention.
