ABSTRACT
Introduction: The latest femtosecond LASER and its application in refractive surgery promises to raise refractive surgery to higher levels, providing the incentive to analyze the results. Objective: To assess the postoperative performance of patients who underwent Femto LASIK in terms of visual acuity, spherical equivalent, keratometry, pachymetry, and postoperative complications.
Methods: A prospective longitudinal study was performed in 40 patients operated on for myopia and astigmatism by FemtoLASIK at the Cuban Hospital in Qatar in 2017, for this purpose, three months after surgery, visual acuity, refractive spherical equivalent, keratometry and pachymetry pre and postoperative were analyzed and compared, as well as the occurrence of complications related to the flap and the interface in the postoperative period in the right eye of each patient.
Results: There was a difference of 6.5 lines of vision between average preoperative and postoperative visual acuity in favor of the latter. Mean spherical equivalent decreased from 3.13 preoperatively to 0.12. Average keratometry decreased from 43.02 D preoperatively to 40.27 D postoperatively, with average pachymetry also decreasing from 543.55 microns to 484.21 microns.
Conclusions: Patients who underwent Femto LASIK had a significant improvement in visual acuity.
