Experience in community health care by Cuban doctors and Brazilian health teams in Santerém

ABSTRACT
Introduction: The "More Doctors" Program was launched in Brazil in July 2013 due to the great shortage of doctors in the country, especially in Primary Health Care, the engagement of Cuban doctors was vital for the development of the program in the poorest communities of each region.Objectives: To describe the results of the work of Cuban doctors and Brazilian health teams from the ¨More Doctors¨ Program.
Methods: A cross-sectional observational research was conducted on the behavior of the results of community medical care in the Ituqui Region of the Santarém Municipality, Pará State, during the period from May 2017 to November 2018. The sample was composed of 4 160 patients that represented the totality of the cases attended; the information was obtained from individual medical records and statistical information database of daily activities. Results: During a year and a half, 61.93% of requests for medical attention were made by female patients, 33.15% of cases showed abnormal blood pressure and 21.06% showed obesity. Most of the health actions were planned for the chronically ill and other groups in 70.52% of cases, as well as promotion and rehabilitation activities with community involvement; a good level of resolution was obtained by referring only 19.59% of patients and the prescribed tests had a high positivity rate.
Conclusions: The integrated work between Cuban doctors and Brazilian health teams had a positive impact on community health care.
