ABSTRACT

Introduction: The preparation of professors as a process of permanent improvement can be spontaneous or planned according to the interests and motivations of individuals and institutions.
Objective: To evaluate the preparation of professors in the use of educational software in the teaching-learning process of Dental Rehabilitation I and II.
Methods: A research with a mixed approach in Medical Education was conducted at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, from September 2018 to October 2021. The study population was composed of eight teachers of the Rehabilitation subject group. The methods of the theoretical level were the analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive and the empirical level the survey, with the Likert scaling method. The questionnaire was applied before and after the professional development activities. Descriptive statistics, the Wilcoxon nonparametric test and Cronbach's alpha coefficient were used.
Results: The professors' preparation obtained an overall average of 2.6 when applying the initial questionnaire, with the standard deviation between 0.76 and 1.39 in all items. The teachers' preparation after the workshops and a postgraduate course obtained an overall average of 4.1 and the standard deviation between 0.46 and 0.75 in all items.
Conclusions: The preparation of professors to use educational software in teaching activities changed significantly with the completion of the virtual course and face-to-face graduate workshops, from a low category at the beginning to a high category at another stage, after the professional development activities.
