ABSTRACT

A systematic review was performed, focused on the possible changes in how abdominal auscultation is performed during physical examination, with the aim of implementing new techniques for each patient's precise and timely diagnosis. Evidence was found that auscultation could be omitted in certain cases, as well as performing abdominal examination, especially auscultation, without the usual systematic approach, without the risk of alteration or masking the diagnosis. Despite the limitations that come with adopting a new approach to physical examination, there was enough evidence to begin implementing these new techniques and improve the quality of abdominal semiology.
