The preparation of the tutor for Dentistry assistant student in the development of researching skills

ABSTRACT
Background: higher education requires continuous preparation of the teaching staff in pedagogical, methodological, didactic and researching matters, because the training of future professionals depends on it.Objective: to characterize the current state of the tutor preparation for student assistant student in the development of researching skills.
Methods: a descriptive research with a quantitative approach was carried out at Ciego de Ávila University of Medical Sciences, from April to July 2023. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive; empirical ones : semi-structured interview, questionnaire and observation; and mathematical-statistical for the analysis of the data found.
Results: it was evident that half of the tutors of assistant students were evaluated as adequate in terms of the mastery of advice from a research point of view, and in relation to guiding them in the preparation of reference works for the student forum. 66.7% of the controled tutors linked researching knowledge to practice during the activities they carry out with their students. Only 22.2% presented difficulties in the use of methods to evaluate the researching kills to be developed by assistant students.
Conclusions: the current state of the preparation of tutors of assistant students in the development of investigative skills was characterized, which evidenced the needs to develop activities aimed at improving the levels of knowledge about these skills to increase the number of motivated tutors in the investigation of new topics and promoting the desire to investigate in assistant students.
