ABSTRACT
Eisenmenger syndrome is the most severe form of pulmonary arterial hyperten-sion associated with congenital heart disease. A non-restrictive left-to-right shunt triggers the development of pulmonary vascular disease, progressive pulmonary arterial hypertension, and an increase in pulmonary vascular resistance that can reach systemic levels. In this article we present the case of a patient with a heart murmur since childhood, who came to a medical consultation due to experiencing shortness of breath with minimal exertion and edema in the lower limbs. The echocardiogram performed revealed the presence of an atrial septal defect with severe pulmonary hypertension, leading to the diagnosis of Eisenmenger syn-drome.
