Technologies and language skills in teaching

ABSTRACT

Introduction: In the academic field, ICTs have facilitated access to information for many students and have also created new challenges for educational institutions. Despite their advantages, they have had a negative impact on the development of language skills.
Objective: to analyse the problems related to information and communication technologies in the teaching and learning process, their necessary relationship with the development of language skills and the need to reformulate teaching practices.
Methods: A systematic bibliographic review was carried out, considering different texts, documents, original and review articles published in Spanish and English. The search was carried out in the SciELO and Google Scholar databases between 1994 and 2024, using the following keywords: language skills, ICT, teaching. A total of 85 articles were reviewed, of which 28 were selected as the final text.
Development: ICT has provided various motivating resources for accessing and processing information, and educational institutions have found it necessary to renew their practices. Despite their negative impact on the development of language skills, their opportunities should be exploited.
Conclusions: Technologies offer enriching opportunities for the development of language skills, essential tools for managing and producing the content of different disciplines.
