ABSTRACT

Rationale: One of the general objectives of the Medicine program is to graduate from a professional capable of using scientific research as a methodological tool and for action in solving the many problems that arise in the practice of the profession.
Aim: To identify the shortcomings in the teaching of health research methodology in undergraduate medicine.
Methods: Transversal descriptive research was carried out in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara in the period January-June 2023. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive and historical-logical; empirical: documentary analysis and questionnaire to second-year medical students; and mathematical-statistical for data analysis.
Results: It was found that the topics related to the context of the research, the sequence of the steps of scientific research and the classification of the research were the ones with the worst results; it was considered that part of the respondents stated that the bibliography used for the subject was insufficient.
Conclusions: In the subject Research Methodology in Health in the Medical Career, learning deficiencies were identified and it was found that there are deficiencies in the students to carry out scientific research with rigor.
