Efficacy of the application of a practical guide on the clinical treatment of liver cirrhosis

ABSTRACT
Background: the development of skills and habits are key pedagogical principles in the teaching-learning process, where the teacher guides the educational work and students retain knowledge to improve professional performance.Objective: to show the effectiveness of a practical guide to promote learning about the digestive system aimed at the clinical treatment of liver cirrhosis in second-year Internal Medicine residents.
Methods: a pedagogical pre-experiment, with a transversal design and mixed approach, was carried out during 2023. Theoretical methods were used: analysis-synthesis, inductive-deductive, historical-logical and system approach; empirical: pretest and posttest, observation of activities, documentary analysis, interview and a practical guide endorsed by experts for the clinical treatment of liver cirrhosis; mathematical: the results were processed and presented in tables. Behavior was evaluated by comparing the initial and final states.
Results: deficiencies were evident in learning the digestive system and treatment of liver cirrhosis, which motivated the application of a practical guide to improve clinical knowledge and skills.
Conclusions: the use of the practical guide demonstrated a significant increase in theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as improvements in therapeutic procedures.
