ABSTRACT
Background: the integration of the nursing care process and the NANDA, NIC and NOC taxonomies constitutes a learning need in the training of nursing residents in intensive care and emergency. Objective: to design an educational intervention on the care of critically ill patients for nursing residents, where the nursing care process method and the NANDA, NIC and NOC taxonomies are integrated.
Methods: quasi-experimental study in the “Saturnino Lora”, “Juan Bruno Zayas” and “Joaquín Castillo Duanis” hospitals in Santiago de Cuba, from 2021 to 2023. Theoretical methods were used: analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, synthetic-structural-functional; empirical documentary review, scientific observation, questionnaire to students and expert criteria; and mathematical-statistical for data analysis.
Results: the diagnosis revealed difficulties in: absence of content on nursing care for critically ill patients linked to the basic contents of the undergraduate course; higher level of impairment in skills to act with this patient; insufficient skill and autonomy in some procedures, which influences the application of the method of the profession; therefore, an educational intervention based on five components was designed, which included the integration of the NANDA, NOC and NIC taxonomies.
Conclusions: the educational intervention allowed restructuring the contents of the training of nurses as specialists in intensive care and emergencies in the academic and care aspects, with a theoretical-methodological reference based on the scientific method and the new regularities of the NANDA, NOC and NIC taxonomy. It was rated as Very adequate by the consulted experts.
