Developing skills in students of the Bachelor's Degree in Medical Imaging and Radiophysics through the Radiotherapy subject

ABSTRACT

Background: Radiotherapy is the treatment of diseases using ionizing radiation from generating machines or sealed radioisotopes. Its main application is in cancer treatment.
Objective: to determine the contribution of the Radiotherapy subject to the achievement of the skills expected for radiotherapy during the third year of the Bachelor's Degree in Medical Imaging and Radio-physics.
Methods: a descriptive research was carried out following the scientific logic and the foundations that characterize pedagogical research at the Faculty of Health Technology of the University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey, during the 2024 school year. The theoretical methods used were: analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction to analyze and present the results; and as empirical methods: documentary analysis of the Study Plan E Program of the Bachelor's Degree in Medical Imaging and Radio-physics and that of the Radiotherapy subject.
Results: It was found that topics II and III of the Radiotherapy subject, related to orientations on in-service training, and where more varieties of organizational forms of teaching are used, facilitate the formation of intellectual and practical skills or those specific to science, teaching or study skills, and dialectical practices stated in the Study Program of Plan E of the career.
Conclusions: It was concluded that the indicated skills are feasible and attainable through the teaching-learning process in which the Radiotherapy subject is developed, specifically from topics II and III.
