ABSTRACT

Objective: this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a hospital-based program designed to improve the organ and tissue donation process among critical care personnel in a secondary-level hospital. Material and methods: a quasi-experimental intervention was conducted involving 80 participants and a four-phase improvement program. Statistical analysis was performed using the bivariate Student's t-test. Results: the evaluation instrument used for training demonstrated good internal consistency, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.767. Among the participants, 28.7% were physicians and 71.3% were nurses working in critical care units. The results showed significant improvements in staff knowledge. Pre-training assessment scores increased from 40.86 to 62.95 (p < 0.05) in the post-training evaluation. Additionally, the annual number of donations increased from 8 to 28 (p < 0.001). Conclusions: the structured strategies implemented in the program effectively enhanced staff understanding and engagement in the organ and tissue donation process, resulting in a significant increase in donation rates.
