ABSTRACT

Introduction: Active screening to detect possible cases of COVID-19 was an essential step indicated by Cuban health authorities in order to prevent the spread of the disease in time. The protagonists of this work were students of medical sciences.

Methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted in September 2021. The study universe was 2573 students of medical sciences who were undergoing active COVID-19 screening in the municipality of Camagüey. A sample of 416 students from eight health areas was selected.
Results: 70.7 % of the sample was female and 73 % (304) were from the Faculty of Medical Sciences. 93.5 % of the respondents rated epidemiology as necessary for their performance as future professionals. 98.6 % (410) of the students perceived that in their health area the results of active screening were very satisfactory, satisfactory or slightly satisfactory.
