ABSTRACT

Brain tumors constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms and, according to the World Health Organization, low-grade gliomas are the most epileptogenic. It is presented a case of a patient with a progressive decrease in the level of consciousness. After performing the complementary tests, two possible diagnoses were proposed. The symptomatology worsened, for which he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit. During his stay on therapy, prolonged anticonvulsant treatment triggered a rare adverse drug reaction. The definitive diagnosis was made post-mortem. It was concluded that, although the suspicion of this disease was present from the beginning, it was necessary to rule out other pathologies with a similar clinical presentation and the symptomatic treatment of the seizures caused a rare and fatal drug reaction. The specific treatment of the glioma could not be practiced since it was confirmed when the patient died.
