ABSTRACT

Achondroplasia is the most common non-lethal skeletal dysplasia. Its general incidence changed between 1 in 10,000 and 1 in 30,000 live births, so it was a complete challenge for the anesthesiologist, since the patient with achondroplasia has spinal malformation, which makes the neuroaxial approach as well as other morphological like cranial alterations and that predispose to a difficult airway which increases the risk of a complication before or during the anesthetic process, causing an unflattering outcome for these patients. During the social service at Rural Hospital No. 61 of the IMSS, a case of a patient with a diagnosis of achondroplasia and term pregnancy with cephalopelvic disproportion is presented who is electively scheduled for caesarean section under neuroaxial anesthesia, this article reports its management during the transanesthetic, demonstrating that handling with peridural block is a suitable tool for obstetric surgeries in these patients.
