Infective endocarditis in hemodialysis

ABSTRACT

Infective endocarditis is the disease resulting from colonization of the endocardium by virulent microorganisms, with a wide range of clinical manifestations and posing challenges for internists across diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. Patients on hemodialysis, who suffer from early cardiovascular and infectious diseases with high prevalence, are particularly susceptible to this complication. Despite advances in diagnostic and treatment methods, the prognosis for patients with this complication remains poor, with a mortality rate ranging from 20% to 40%. This review will analyze risk factors, presentations, the most commonly involved pathogens, and diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for the different clinical presentations.
