ABSTRACT

Although breast implant placement is a very popular procedure, an increasing number of patients inquire about implant removal and the different options to improve tissue appearance after explantation. A retrospective study was carried out on patients who underwent breast implant explantation with or without mastopexy between September 1, 2022, and August 30, 2024. A total of 29 patients were included, with a mean age of 51.2 years (range 29-76); nine patients had comorbidities. The most frequent procedure was implant explantation with capsulectomy and mastopexy in 14 patients; explantation and capsulectomy in nine patients; and explantation alone in six patients. In addition, three patients underwent fat grafting. Patients with ASIA syndrome reported limited symptom improvement (2.3 on a 1-5 scale). We concluded that explantation can be performed together with capsulectomy, mastopexy, or fat grafting. The primary reason was the patient's desire to no longer have breast implants. Patients with a history of ASIA syndrome may undergo the procedure after evaluation by a specialist.
