ABSTRACT

Early integration of palliative care (PC) is an extremely important opportunity not only for the physical domain but also for the psychological, spiritual and social sphere of the family as well as the community of each patient. PC is a human right that the child has in the health system although with limited resources. Our objectives were to identify the current literature on palliative care in oncohematological diseases in pediatric age and to describe the priorities and approaches established in the literature to access palliative care for pediatric oncohematological patients. The review was carried out through searches in three databases (PubMed, Scopus and Springer), using the terms "palliative care", "children", "pediatric", "oncohematological", "cancer", "leukemia" (using MeSH terms). A total of 1,268 references were imported for review, obtaining 24 bibliographic references, mostly narrative and systematic reviews. Palliative care in pediatric oncohematologic patients is an arid topic, more studies are still needed to obtain more information and new research is needed for Mexican children.
