ABSTRACT
Kidney transplantation in patients with HIV infection is no longer an absolute contraindication. It is now a viable therapeutic alternative provided certain essential clinical criteria are met: effective antiretroviral therapy, undetectable viral load, CD4+ lymphocyte count greater than 200 cells/ mm3, and absence of active or latent opportunistic infections. This report presents the first case recorded in the state of Chihuahua of an HIV-positive patient undergoing kidney transplantation who developed severe infectious complications in the late postoperative period.REFERENCES
