ABSTRACT

Hematological injury within the spectrum of organ dysfunctions during the systemic inflammatory response to the circulating inoculum has a great variety in its clinical presentation; it can range from disseminated intravascular coagulation to dysregulation in fibrinolysis through modifications in the plasminogenesis activation. We present the clinical case of a patient in her fifth decade of life who had elevated serum levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), causing interesting phenomena that could be directly related to the clinical outcome.
