ABSTRACT

In this review work we will focus on presenting new strategies for local regeneration therapy of the dentine-pulp complex. Currently, regenerative endodontic strategies mainly involve stem cell transplantation and regenerative endodontic procedures. These procedures are a biological approach, incorporating the concept of tissue engineering to replace damaged structures, including dentin and cells of the dentin-pulp complex with the goal not only of healing apical lesions and subsequent resolution of signs and symptoms, but also of continued root development and strengthening of dentinal tissues to prevent potential root fractures. Furthermore, the current knowledge of the potential effect derived from the interaction of dental materials with the dentin-pulp complex is reviewed, as well as possible future scenarios.
