ABSTRACT

Introduction: Cardiometabolic risk assessment in patients with essential arterial hypertension is vital and a diagnostic challenge.
Objective: To evaluate the behavior of cardiometabolic risk in patients with uncomplicated essential hypertension.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out in 100 hypertensive patients without target organ damage who underwent clinical history, glycemia, glycosylated hemoglobin, lipidogram and uric acid. They were correlated with body mass index, time of evolution of arterial hypertension and global cardiovascular risk.
Results: Of the patients, 56% were men, 31% were smokers, 83% were overweight and obese, 86% were sedentary, 71% did not have a healthy diet and 53% had been hypertensive for more than 5 years. In the obese, a significant relationship was found with abdominal circumference (110.9 ± 8.9, p=0.000), triglycerides (1.8 ± 0.9, p=0.000) and uric acid (374 ± 100.7, p=0.001). Age (62.9 ± 7.8, p=0.000), systolic blood pressure (151.6±15.6, p=0.021), lower HDL (0.9±0.3, p=0.000) and uric acid (349, 3 ± 115.3, p=0.015) were significantly related to high cardiovascular risk.
Conclusions: The results demonstrated the value of clinical parameters such as age, abdominal circumference, body mass index and systolic blood pressure, as well as metabolic parameters such as triglycerides, HDL and uric acid in the evaluation of cardiometabolic risk and its relationship with cardiovascular risk in hypertensive patients.
