Beyond GERD: Barrett’s esophagus in an 8-year-old female patient

ABSTRACT
Introduction: gastroesophageal reflux is the most common inflammatory condition of the esophagus in children, and Barrett’s esophagus is one of its consequences. Clinical case: an eight-year-old female patient with a history of retrosternal heartburn, abdominal pain, nausea, emesis and diarrhea. Endoscopy revealed C-type esophagitis, hiatal hernia, severe erosive pangastropathy, and severe nodular duodenitis. Biopsy revealed Barrett’s esophagus and Helicobacter pylori. Conclusion: the importance of prompt diagnosis and treatment of Barrett’s esophagus was emphasized to prevent the development of neoplasia in adulthood.REFERENCES
