ABSTRACT

Alopecia areata is an immune-mediated disorder characterized by non-scarring hair loss involving the scalp and other body areas. Its management remains challenging due to a limited therapeutic armamentarium and variable response rates. Statins, commonly used in cardiovascular disease prevention, exhibit immunomodulatory properties that have prompted interest in their potential role in selected dermatologic conditions, including alopecia areata. We present our clinical experience with the use of oral simvastatin combined with ezetimibe as an adjunctive treatment in patients with alopecia areata, within a therapeutic approach that is still under clinical exploration.
