ABSTRACT

We present a 32-year-old male patient with advanced HIV (CD4+ count of 8 cells/μL) who developed disseminated cutaneous histoplasmosis with widespread exophytic lesions following the discontinuation of antiretroviral therapy. Due to the clinical similarity to other dermatoses, a skin biopsy was crucial for diagnosis. Histopathological examination using PAS and Grocott stains revealed intracellular yeasts compatible with Histoplasma capsulatum. This case highlights the importance of considering histoplasmosis in immunocompromised patients presenting with polymorphic cutaneous lesions and emphasizes that histopathological study is essential for the accurate diagnosis and appropriate management of this systemic mycosis.
