ABSTRACT

The χ² test is commonly used for the analysis of quantitative or categorical variables in datasets where observations are grouped into categories. This test evaluates statistical differences between an event or illness and an associated exposure. In the health sciences, it is frequently applied to analyze diseases by comparing expected and observed percentages. The null hypothesis (Ho) posits no difference between observed and expected percentages, while the alternative hypothesis suggests a significant difference. This article provides an overview of the χ² test, its fundamentals principles, the criteria for variable selection, and its potential applications in health science research.
