ABSTRACT

Objective: To describe the case of patient diagnosed with a hepatic tumor, interpreted as hepatocarcinoma.
Setting: Third level health care hospital.
Design: Case report.
Description of the case: Man of 58 years, with a previous diagnosis of cryptogenic liver cirrhosis, and who was diagnosed as having a hepatocellular carcinoma. He was subjected to surgery performing segmentectomy; the histopathological study reported an inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver. The patient is currently asymptomatic.
Conclusion: The inflammatory pseudotumor of the liver is a benign lesion of unknown etiology, rare, surgically resectable, of excellent prognosis, and must always be considered when evaluating hepatic masses.
