ABSTRACT

Objective: To inform the case of uterus torsion associated to a hemorrhagic cystic teratoma in a 10-year-old girl.
Setting: Second health care level rural hospital in the state of San Luis Potosí, Mexico.
Design: Case report.
Case report: Girl, 10 years old, with sudden abdominal pain, evolution of 5 days, of moderate intensity, accompanied by nausea. A hypogastric tumor was palpated with positive appendicular points. Cardiac frequency of 112/min, 120/80 mmHg arterial pressure, body temperature 38°C and respiratory frequency of 24/min; hemoglobin of 10.8 g/dl, hematocrit of 33%, leucocytes count of 10,500, 4% banded. During surgery, a 9 x 8 x 4 cm cystic torted teratoma of the left ovary was found, constituted histologically by hemorrhagic necrotic bone tissue and cartilage without immature elements; a salpingo-oophorectomy was performed; the symptoms remitted, and the girl was discharged on the 4th day.
Conclusions: An ovarian torted cyst is rare in girls, it frequently corresponds to the left side, and its confirmation requires laparotomy.
