ABSTRACT

Introduction: liver metastases from breast cancer represent a serious complication with a poor prognosis and limited longterm survival. Acute liver failure secondary to tumor infiltration is a rare clinical entity with extremely high mortality. Objective: to analyze the pathophysiological mechanisms that lead to acute liver failure due to liver metastases from breast cancer, evaluate the role of nuclear medicine in diagnosis, and review the available therapeutic options according to the different tumor subtypes. Material and methods: narrative review of the scientific literature and illustrative presentation of a clinical case. Conclusions: acute liver failure due to breast cancer metastases requires a high level of clinical suspicion, definitive diagnosis by liver biopsy, and multidisciplinary management in specialized centers to improve patient prognosis.
