All blood and blood products come from blood donors. Repeat volunteer non-remunerated blood donors (VNRD) are the safest. Hence the goal of the WHO and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is to have 100% VNRD in every country of the world. However, the practice of family or replacement donation and paid donations still exists in some countries.
