ABSTRACT

In this study, we had a control group that presented open neck wounds that was managed with daily cure and dressings, and in the other group we used calcium alginate dressings to treat open wounds in the neck, posterior to the drainage of superficial and deep neck infections in 15 patients attended in the department of ENT and Head and Neck Surgery of the Central Military Hospital of Mexico City, with the purpose to verify if the management with this material accelerates the process of healing, reduces hospital stay, reduces pain and the time required in the daily attention between the doctor and the patient, without a possible infection. Of all the patients treated everyone presented a favorable response, without aggregated infections and with the advantage of a significant reduction of pain caused by daily dressing change, the time of hospitalization also reduced the extra time required daily by a patient.
