ABSTRACT

Acute lung injury is an uncommon entity usually secondary to other pathologies associated with a severe systemic inflammatory response. Some cases of acute lung injury are due to pulmonary reexpansion after treatment of pneumothorax or pleural effusion. Pulmonary re-oxygenation with free-radical oxygen release and neutrophiles lung infiltration is responsible of injury. We report the case of a 57 year-old female with unilateral acute lung injury secondary to pulmonary reexpansion after treatment of malignant pleural effusion.
