ABSTRACT

This paper briefly defines the concept of overweight and obesity, its contributing factors and its consequences for human health, especially for children. Of all factors related to childhood obesity, this paper focuses on the media role because of the amount of daily time devoted to them and their power to provoke certain behaviours. This work is based on the review of experimental research and recent documents belonging to such organizations as WHO (World Health Organization) and Kaiser Family Foundation. We conclude that the media play an important role as a cause of childhood obesity.
