Language impairments post encephalic vascular accident in geriatric patients

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The process of ageing is invariably accompanied by degenerative changes, that can or cannot have a clinical meaning, depending on the degree of functional or anatomic affectation of each organ and body system that shows inter or intraindividual significant variations. One of the main causes of mortality and morbidity in the elderly at world level are the encephalic vascular accidents. Neurolinguistic alterations are among the sequels that produce disableness at a social and family level. Material and methods: The objectives of our investigation were: One characteristic sample and to report the incidence of language impairments post encephalic vascular accidents in geriatric patients from codich a sample of the 22 cases obtained. Results: The results for a 17.2% of geriatric patients with vascular encephalic accidents fundamentally aphasic logopathies and dysarthia. Conclusion: Dysarthia showed discreet symptoms and for asphasia, the behavior was devastating, showing a total incapacity of the verbal communication.
