ABSTRACT
In this paper we comment on the results of the CREATE-ECLA research program which questions the use of the glucose-insulin-potassium (GIK) solution proposed by Sodi Pallares D en 1962 for the treatment of the acute myocardial infarction. (AMI). We discuss the CREATE-ECLA research method as well as their research results and compare them with those obtained from similar research programs conducted in other countries. We remark that the countries selected for the CREATE-ECLA research program were actually not the best places to conduct such a study due to the fact that the mortality rate due to AMI with or without GIK in those countries is quite high. We regret that this prior information was not taken into account in the design of a more reliable research strategy. In addition, we notice that the considerable delay of time between the appearance of the symptoms and the application of the GIK solution hindered the recuperation of damaged tissue. Finally, the study suffers from an elementary error: it did not reproduce the original procedure faithfully since the authors administered the treatment only during 24 hours whereas originally Dr. Sodi et. al. applied it during the acute phase of the infarct syndrome characterized by the presence of electrocardiographic signs of injury.
