Bowen’s disease, squamous cell carcinoma in situ.

ABSTRACT

Bowen’s disease is a form of squamous cell carcinoma in situ that affects both skin and mucous membranes and has the potential to progress into invasive squamous cell carcinoma. It is characterized by a persistent, red, scaly o crusted plaque that appears frequently on sun-exposed surfaces such as the head, neck and lower legs. A number of different modalities are available for the treatment, but surgical excision is the best when the lesion’s size and location permit such procedure. We report the case of a 30 year-old woman with an uncommon topographic presentation of Bowen’s disease that was successfully treated with surgical excision.
