ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics of lateral canals in permanent teeth, this canal emerges from the principal canal and has an ending towards the radicular cement. Three hundred extracted human teeth were analyzed, and 16% of these teeth presented lateral canals. When we examined the trajectory and ending of these canals, we found that 36% presented the ending towards the lingual area according to the length of the lateral canals, in all the teeth it was possible to determine that thiscorresponds to 13% of the total length of the canals system, but emphasizes the data of the superior central incisors that represented 26% of the total length of the canals system. It was also detected that 4.6% of the total of the teeth, have an apical delta ending.
