Brachymetatarsia of first and fourht metatarsal: Surgical treatment by fourth metatarsal elongation and shortening of second and third metatarsal

ABSTRACT

One female patients of 12 years old with radiologic and clinical diagnosis of shortening of the first and fourth metatarsian from the left foot, refered pain during the first phase of the step, disminution of the strenght in the fore foot and sobreposition of the fouth toe over the third toe. The lengthening of the fourth metatarsian was made with the Z technique and exterior fixation and shortening of the second and third metatrasian posterior to the osteotomy. The fixation was made nails, and the tendious lenthening with the Z technique for the extensor of the fourth toe from the left foot. With this procedure the deformation was eliminated, disminution of the pain and the biomecanic of the foot was corrected.
