ABSTRACT

The acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a consequence of congestive heart failure. The objective of this clinical case is to depict the usefulness of the nursing care method in an Intensive Care Unit. A female patient was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit due to ARDS. The nursing care method helped in establishing five diagnoses related to the clinical status of the patient. Furthermore, we identified three risk diagnosis related to the prone position which is a technique that the nursing staff performs to improve oxygen supply. It was concluded that nursing care for cardiac patients should aim to care for and prevent further complications of this condition. The nursing care method is the cornerstone to maintain adequate oxygen supply that in most cases is the outcome of a series of procedures such as placing the patient in prone position; in this way the nursing care method helps in providing safe care.
