ABSTRACT

Objective: To present two cases of colovesical fistula secondary to diverticular disease of the colon.
Setting: Third level health care hospital.
Design: Case reports.
Description of the cases: We present two cases of patients with colovesical fistula, secondary to diverticular disease of the colon; both patients coursed with pneumaturia and fecaluria. Diagnosis was established through colon by enema and cystoscopy; the use of a CAT scan was not considered necessary to confirm the diagnosis. In both cases, we performed resection of the fistulous tract, closing of the bladder in two planes, and resection of the involved colon by means of primary anastomosis. The postoperative evolution of both patients was satisfactory.
Conclusions: Nowadays, surgery in one step is preferred for the treatment of colovesical fistulas, comprehending resection of the fistulous tract, primary closure of the bladder, and resection of the involved colonic segment by means of primary anastomosis.
